Tanzania Improves Energy Efficient Stoves

A great deal of environmental damage is inflicted in Africa by people using local resources such as wood for cooking.

Now, British company co2balance is introducing innovative energy efficient stoves to Tanzania in an effort to mitigate East Africa’s environmental traumas.

Co2balance managing director Mark Simpson said, "Expanding into Tanzania brings our count to six countries in Africa with listed and registered projects, with the Indian subcontinent coming on stream next year. Our business plan is to be recognized as the leader in stove technology for carbon reduction," The Citizen reported.

The energy efficient stoves halve the amount of wood the family requires for cooking.
Co2balance’s two project areas are at Arusha near Mount Kilimanjaro and Tanga on the coast and will collectively assist roughly 40,000 families by providing the energy efficient stoves.

According to Co2balance, their improved design in turn has produced a reduction of 70 percent in smoke pollution within family dwellings, a cause of serious respiratory infection that kills more children in East Africa than malaria.

Besides its work in Africa amongst rural populations Co2balance has implemented Carbon Management Solutions for some major corporations, including Aviva, BSkyB, Toshiba UK, Toshiba Europe, Gaz De France, Staples Office Supplies, Dixons Stores Group, Mediacom, Hill Dickinson and the BBC.
