Obama Says that the World Must Act to Prevent Climate Change

President Barack Obama has given a speech in Berlin in which he praised Germany and Europe for leading the way in developing a greener economy, but warned that a failure to take stronger action against global warming could make the future a difficult place to live in.

After his promise earlier this year to make climate change priority during his second term, many believe that this speech leads the way for a new ambitious package of climate measures to soon be announced.

“Our dangerous carbon emissions have come down. But we know we have to do more - and we will do more,” he said.

“With a global middle class consuming more energy every day, this must now be an effort of all nations, not just some.”

A failure to take action, he states, will see “more severe storms, more famine and floods, new waves of refugees, coastlines that vanish, oceans that rise.”

“This is the future we must avert. This is the global threat of our time. And for the sake of future generations, our generation must move toward a global compact to confront a changing climate before it is too late. That is our job. That is our task. We have to get to work.”

According to businessGreen, Obama’s climate advisor said that new climate change measures would be announced within a few weeks.
