Pirates hijacked a Greek-operated oil tanker off the coast of Togo and stole 3,000 tons of oil cargo, releasing the ship back to the captain on Thursday, news agencies reported.
The vessel was unloaded and set free some 60 miles off the coast of Lagos, according to the charter company, Greek-owned Golden Energy Management.
The tanker was carrying 56,000 tons of gasoil when it was hijacked.
This is the eighth piracy attack off the coast of Togo in since January, and the second in two weeks in the Gulf of Guinea, off Africa's west coast.
