A huge thermoelectric power plant joint venture between Brazil's MPX Energia SA and Germany's E.ON has been sidelined by a Chilean court over environmental concerns.
Earlier this week, the court rejected proposed plans for the $5 billion, 2,100MW Central Castilla thermoelectric power plant, giving in to opposition from fisherman and artisans who were concerned about the damage to the environment from the coal-fired mega plant.
The court did leave open another window of opportunity for the venture to resubmit an environmental impact study at a later date.
